Counting Down to Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island Kite Fest 2016

The countdown is on to the family day at Sir Bani Yas Island with Anantara for the first annual Kite Fest 2016.

Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island Resorts are counting down to the first annual Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island Annual Kite Fest, to be held on Friday 19 February, 2016 on the beach adjacent to the Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara.

The day commences at 11.00 am and is focused on families making their own kites and then flying them from the beaches of the island with a complimentary sausage sizzle thanks to MH Enterprises and Spinneys Abu  Dhabi, music, beach games and fun for all ages until 5.00pm.

Event sponsors, Adventure HQ, will be installing a special climbing wall on the beach along with water slides and other activities which will be available free of charge.   Visitors to the island whether just for the day or for an overnight stay, will enjoy a special 25% off island activities including the nature and wildlife drive, archery, kayaking and more.

“We are delighted to bring this event to the Western region calendar and welcome many new faces to Sir Bani Yas Island and well as some returning guests,” explained Mrs Sharon Garrett, Area Director of Marketing & Communications, Anantara Hotels Resorts & Spas Abu Dhabi.

“Within 48 hours of the event going live on social media we had received registrations from more than 100 participants which certainly exceeded our expectations.” she added.

The kite flying contest will commence at 12noon with three different categories:

(1)  Smallest Kite:  Entries must fly on 7.5m of line and flyer higher than the point of mooring.

(2)  Most Creative Kite:  Entries will be judged on theme, construction and design.  Judges are looking for creativity with novel and odd features and shapes.

(3)  Largest Kite:  The area of the sail will determine the largest kite.  Please bear in mind that kite trains are not allowed.  Kites must be capable of flying for more than one minute to qualify.  Contestants are limited to three attempts in this event.

Registration, which is free of charge, is now open by emailing kitefest.sirbaniyas@anantara.com.    Note no professional kites will be permitted in the contest.  Prizes will be awarded across all categories.

Room packages over the weekend start from  AED 1,200* per room per night including breakfast for two, 25% off activities on Friday 19th February, sausage sizzle at the KiteFest and complimentary water taxis to and from Sir Bani Yas Island.

Kite Fest 2016 would not be possible without the generous support of sponsors and media partners including:  Spinneys Abu Dhabi, MH Enterprises, The National, Al Ittihad, Dubai 92FM, Coca Cola and Adventure HQ.
