AWST Enhances Efforts to Promote Regional participation in 2018 Edition

The Supreme Organising Committee of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2018) will hold a press conference in Jordan’s capital, Amman, on Wednesday, November 29, to promote their fourth edition scheduled to take place from February 2-12, 2018 in Sharjah.

The 11-day competition will be held under the patronage of HH Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairperson of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation (SWSF).

The conference will be attended by HE Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director General of SWSF, Deputy Head of AWST’s Supreme Organising Committee (SOC) and Head of AWST’s Executive Committee, and a number of senior Jordanian officials and prominent sports figures.

During the Amman event, the committee will highlight the goals of AWST 2018, and reveal competition details to encourage a larger number of female athletes from the country to participate in one of the Arab region’s major women’s sporting event.

The visit to Jordan will be the newest in a series of successful promotional visits made by AWST in Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Russia and the United Kingdom, as part of their efforts to attract maximum participation from different Arab countries.

HE Al Naqbi said: “We are excited to visit Jordan, which is home to a large number of outstanding athletes and sportswomen. We are very pleased with their participation in the fourth edition of the pan-Arab women’s sporting competition. Through our efforts, we look forward to advance the status of Arab women in sports, and strengthen communication between Arab players, which we believe will allow our region better representation at regional and international forums.”

AWST 2018 receives a great deal interest from government sports institutions in Jordan, which is the first platform for Arab women players. The Jordanian clubs are keen to increase the number of players participating in each edition, with the aim of instilling a spirit of competition in female athletes and the importance of winning, while qualifying them to participate in major tournaments in various sports.
