The Kingdom has instituted a national award in the name of senior archaeologist Abdul Rahman Al-Ansari to acknowledge his great works in the field of archaeology.
"The award adopted by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), in collaboration with King Saud University (KSU) and the Saudi Antiquities Association (SAA), was granted in recognition of the large and leading role played by Al-Ansari throughout his rich career, and the practical efforts that he made toward the discovery of a large number of archeological landmarks and monuments," an SCTA spokesman said Thursday.

The spokesman informed the public that the award covers three branches: the first is devoted to leading Saudi researchers, particularly university professors, while the second is dedicated to non-Saudi researchers who study Saudi antiquities and heritage, and the third branch is devoted to prominent youth working in this field.

Responding to the honor, the members of Al-Ansari's family praised the announcement made by SCTA President Prince Sultan bin Salman, saying the initiative to dedicate an award in the name of the senior archaeologist in recognition of his efforts in the service of the heritage of the Kingdom is laudable and encouraging.
"The sons and wife of Al-Ansari expressed their appreciation in a message sent to the SCTA president in which they described the initiative as a gesture of recognition of the works undertaken by him, and his efforts in the service of highlighting the Kingdom's cultural depth,” the spokesman said.

Moreover, they also expressed their deep appreciation for Prince Sultan for having made a special effort to visit their father who had recently been hospitalized, in order to reassure him and his family regarding his health, and follow-up on his progress since being admitted, he added.
“This gesture is not uncommon of our leaders, who have been taking care of sincere people who serve the Kingdom in various fields,” the family members underlined.
