AQUATIS Aquarium-Vivarium Lausanne is set to launch as the largest freshwater aquarium in Europe during its grand debut on 21 October, 2017. Aquarium-Vivarium Lausanne celebrates the vivacity of water, earth, innovation and science in an ideal platform of recreation and environmental education.
Situated at the heart of the Geneva Lake region, AQUATIS presents the habitats and sea life of aquatic animals in an immersive and interactive scenography. Its mission is to spark people’s interest in the diversity of scientific culture in a unique oasis at the heart of the city. The project is composed of over 50 aquariums, vivariums and terrariums in a 2-million litre water facility.
Visitors will be welcomed to a freshwater odyssey towards the discovery of the aquatic fauna and flora of more than 5 continents and 20 ecosystems upon entering. The aquarium-vivarium destination integrates the use of innovative digital technologies in its exciting storytelling of the aquatic life with technical and care facilities, awe-inspiring visuals and superb productions. Each floor is divided to showcase the different geographic areas in the planet; the first floor takes you to a journey around the waters of the Alpine, Lake Geneva, Rhone, and Mediterranean areas in Europe where emblematic rivers, vast seas and glaciers can be found. On the other hand, the second floor takes on the wider scope of the marine life around the world, featuring the aquatic wildlife of continents including Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America.
AQUATIS is also home to the Aquatis Hotel & Conference Center, which marked its opening in 2015. The hotel is composed of 143 lavish rooms, high-tech fitness room, appetizing dining venue and modern meetings and seminar halls, ideal for tourists seeking to stay closer to the aquatic action and for businessmen looking for a unique venue for meetings and events.
