Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum unveils Empower’s new Za’abeel plant model and reviews the company’s latest developments.

During the opening of the WETEX 2022 exhibition

Za’abeel District Cooling Plant, developed in the Za’abeel area by Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, captured the attention of the participants and visitors of WETEX 2022, which was kicked off yesterday at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and with the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE). During his tour of the exhibition halls, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum unveiled the new Za’abeel district cooling plant model at Empower stand.

 

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), were briefed by Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, on the model and the operation of the new plant.

It also shows the country's support to global trends on sustainability, rationalization of consumption and optimal use of resources for a better life for future generations Empower's participation and strategic sponsorship of the WETEX stems from its global position as one of the leading companies striving for the development and dissemination of the latest technological means in the field of district cooling globally, as well as its leading role in developing global strategies to address environmental issues and help other countries to adopt more sustainable and effective solutions for the advancement of the energy sector and district cooling industry", said Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

 

Operating with a production capacity of 50,000 refrigeration tons (RT), the new Za’abeel plant was built by Empower, and is scheduled to be connected to the company’s Dubai International Financial Center plant, bringing the total production capacity to 112,000 refrigeration tons. The new plant will serve the existing and upcoming significant  real estate projects, most notably the buildings of the Dubai International Financial Center, the Dubai World Trade Center, the Emirates Towers, the Wasl1 mega project, and the iconic One Za’abeel tower.

 

The Za’abeel plant belongs to a new generation of district cooling plants that leverage artificial intelligence solutions, and comprises advanced Thermal Energy Storage (TES) systems to enhance energy efficiency during peak hours. The Plant is also equipped with cutting-edge technologies that contribute to reducing consumption of potable water and preserving natural resources by adopting Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) water in its operations. In terms of the architectural structure, the plant has a unique and iconic design that meets the highest international standards in construction and design of buildings, as well as the standards of sustainable green buildings, and modern urban developments in Dubai.
