As part of its efforts to supporting initiatives to make Dubai a global and regional design and fashion destination, Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI) organised a training programme entitled Fashion Law, in which jurists discussed fashion from a legal front in response to the significant growth the field is witnessing in the MENA region. The programme will also cover health, economic, financial, and social implications of intellectual property (IP) violation, in the presence of a number of stakeholders.
Organising this programme is a valuable addition to DJI's efforts to raise awareness of fashion law and IP as well as innovation protection laws. The 25th issue of ‘Al-Maahad’ magazine extensively discussed the legal aspects of trademark protection, methods of fighting counterfeiting and piracy, and other relative topics. These efforts are in line with the government's approach in this field as the UAE has been recognised as one of the leading countries in the field of IP from the legislative and executive perspectives, and is classified among the best countries in the world in the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR).
HE Justice Dr Jamal Hussein Al Sumaiti, Director General of DJI, said: "This programme supports DJI’s principles that emphasise creativity and innovation as distinguishing marks of our time. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the legal systems that protect it and intellectual production as well. This protection further encourages efforts to achieve excellence in this field that is witnessing phenomenal and unique growth."
This programme consolidates DJI’s efforts of supporting government efforts, through the cooperation with various parties from the public and private sectors to highlight the Emirate's status and strengthen its presence regionally and internationally as a leading destination and centre for the design and fashion industry. DJI will work with multiple parties to provide the necessary support for this vital industry and bolster its sustainability and growth as well as participate in comprehensive studies and research to provide accurate information to help talented individuals choose Dubai and the UAE platforms to achieve their ambitions.
A number of fashion houses and specialised institutes select Dubai as its operating hub, enhancing the Emirate’s position in the fashion and design field, as the city adopted an integrated, retail-legislative framework to support the retail sector’s growth as well as developed a unique model that redefines the concept of shopping to further Dubai's future thinking. The government is making continuous efforts that comprise measures and decisions to strengthen Dubai's position and promote the creative design sector.
