Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman will open the renovation project of Al-Turaif district in the Historic Diriyah on Sunday evening.
The heads of state and leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will attend the inaugural ceremony, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The restoration of Al-Turaif, the first capital of the Saudi dynasty, is part of the massive Project for the Development of Historic Diriyah, located north west of Riyadh city.
Prince Faisal Bin Bandar, emir of Riyadh, and chairman of Arriyadh Development Authority, thanked the King for his support for the project.
“Al-Turaif has been transformed into an open museum with the restoration and documentation of its archeological sites,” he added.
Founded in the 15th century, Al-Turaif bears witness to the Najdi architectural style and it was an outstanding example of traditional human settlement in a desert environment.
