Lughati Introduces Children to Fun Arabic Learning at ‘Dawahi 5’ Festival

Lughati, the Sharjah-based initiative dedicated to supporting Arabic learning the smart way, participated in the 5th edition of ‘Dawahi Festival’, which began on 17 December and will run until 2 January 2017. The festival is organised at Al Yash Park in Sharjah and the Beach Park in the city of Dibba Al Hisn by the Districts and Villages Affairs (DVA) Department in Sharjah, and has been receiving a great number of visitors to participate in the celebratory community atmosphere the festival is known for creating every year.

Lughati has been organising a host of entertainment activities for children during the festival, through the use of modern technology, and has received an overwhelming footfall from children eager to take part in the initiative’s activities. The initiative is hosting engaging story-telling sessions for children, and a great variety of activities and workshops to enrich young minds with the Arabic language in fun and entertaining ways.

Among their activities, a group of volunteer teachers read short stories pre-installed on the ‘Horouf’ application used on Lughati’s smart tablets, through an interactive screen. The teachers also conducted arts and crafts workshops related to the stories. The ‘Horouf’ application was displayed on the stand’s interactive screen and tablets for young visitors, who had the chance to play and familiarise themselves with the interesting tests, exercises, educational material and fun-filled games available on the smart tablets similar to those provided by Lughati to public schools.

Badria Al Ali, Manager of Lughati, said: “Through our participation in the fifth edition of Dawahi Festival, we seek to bring children closer to the Arabic language through modern methods and technology to nurture them in a fun learning environment. As the winter holidays are on, we want people to learn that children’s education is a continuous process and must continue even outside of school terms. The festival is a great community platform to continue the learning process during the holidays, and gave us the opportunity to showcase Lughati’s work to families from across Sharjah, and introduce them to the services we provide in public schools.”

Al Ali invited families to bring their children to visit Lughati’s stand at the Dawahi Festival and benefit from Lughati’s fun-filled events and creative activities. She pointed out how the initiative has been carefully crafted to be equally fun and educational in its delivery of Arabic language education through thrilling entertainment.

The campaign to support Arabic language education in Sharjah’s schools using new technology was launched by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in 2013. It was subsequently rebranded as ‘Lughati’ initiative. It comes in response to developments in learning methods, and will pave the way for the creation of a knowledge-based society and contribute to improving the outcomes of education.

The Districts & Villages Affairs (DVA) Department in Sharjah has taken the initiative to organize the ‘Dawahi Festival’ since 2012, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, to strengthen social and family cohesion. Organised in December every year, the festival seeks to create a fun-filled community event where all members of the community will find valuable interaction and entertainment. This year, more than 25 governmental and private entities are taking part in the festival, which is expected to attract over 5,000 visitors.
