Shang Palace at Shangri-La Hotel Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi Celebrates Traditional Ritual Daily

Kung Fu Tea Master brings visual treat with dinner

Shangri-La Hotel Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi pays tribute to the ancient Chinese culture ritual of preparing and presenting tea to guests at the hotel’s signature Cantonese restaurant, Shang Palace. Presented daily during lunch and dinner, this celebrated rite of making tea with effort demonstrates the mental and physical skills of ancient warriors who were able to draw power for their streamlined movements from tea.
With a focus on bringing a sense of balance, power, flexibility, agility and strength in order to control muscle movement, tea is credited with achieving this equilibrium allowing ancient warriors to prove themselves on the battlefield. Shang Palace’s Kung Fu Tea Master, Qin Fu Hao, a native of Sichuan, a culturally rich southwest province in China brings the traditional custom to life captivating diners nightly.
With roots stemming from heritage-rich Sichuan, his desire to continue the practice of this ancient Chinese culture was engrained in Qin from an early age. Making the decision to study Oriental Opera at the Sichuan Opera Arts Academy therefore became a natural choice. Qin also studied the traditional Chinese art of changing faces. Upon completing his studies, Qin’s training and love of performing Chinese art enabled him to become a Kung Fu tea Master, pursuing his passion and offering the opportunity for him to travel to many countries including: France, India, Poland, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates to perform. Qin brings the ancient pastime to life daily during lunch and dinner at Shang Palace.
“While adorned in a vibrant colored traditional costume presenting the time honoured unique ritual, I demonstrate skills that test the strength of both the body and the mind. Due to the powerful quick movements and 1.2 meter tea spout, sufficient space is required to showcase ancient Chinese warrior fighting skills and test the ability to pour a cup of warm tea, which allows for optimum flavor without sparing a drop outside of the teacup. Each performance is treated like the first to ensure an ultimate and true experience for guests” said Qin Fu Hao, Kung Fu Tea Master, Shang Palace, Shangri-La Hotel Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi.
