Twitter gives people more control through new product updates

Twitter is the fastest way to see what's happening and what everyone is talking about. What makes Twitter great is that it's open to everyone and every opinion. As part of our commitment to provide tools that enable people to control what they see and who they interact with on Twitter, we took a new approach to focus on the most critical needs.

Twitter has long had a feature called "mute" which enables people to mute accounts they don't want to see Tweets from. They can do so by simply visiting an account’s profile page, tapping the gear icon and choosing ‘mute @username’. Now we’re expanding mute through the following features that will be rolled out globally in the coming days in all languages:

Mute Keyword: We’ve created a new option in notification settings to mute notifications for Tweets you are mentioned in that contain particular words, phrases, usernames, emojis or hashtags. Muting will remove these Tweets from your Notifications tab, push notifications, SMS, and email notifications (not from your timeline). This will be available on all platforms.

Mute Conversations: People can now even mute entire conversations they don’t want to see notifications about. When you mute a conversation, you won’t get any new notifications about that conversation. You will, however, still see Tweets from the conversation in your timeline and when you click into the original Tweet. This is available on iOS, Android, mobile and desktop web.

These are features we’ve heard many of you ask for, and we’re going to keep listening to make them better and more comprehensive over time. We commit to rapidly improving Twitter based on everything we observe and learn.
