SCD Launches “Best Practices in Urban Planning” Programme for DTPS Employees

Sharjah for Capability Development (SCD) recently signed off a MoU with the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey in Sharjah (DTPS) at DTPS’s headquarters in Sharjah. The new MoU aims to enhance the strategic partnership between the two parties and coordinate their efforts aimed at developing young human resources employees by elevating their occupational and leadership skills through launching the ‘Best Practices in Urban Planning’ programme.

Runningfrom 9-19 October, the programme will host 15 DTPS engineers, and will offer them the opportunity to visit organisations, centres and universities involved in urban planning in Japan and Singapore to gain deeper insights into the best international expertise and practices in the field.

The MoU was signed off by HE Noura Al Noman, Member of the Board of Trustees of Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators; and HE Khalid Bin Butti Al Muhairi, Director of DTPS, in the presence of Mohammed Al Madhi, SCD’s Programme and Event Director; Saeed Ali Alhammadi, Director of Corporate Communication at SCD; and from DTPS Majid Al Jowaied, Director of Public Services Department.

The programme will be implemented in two phases; the first starts with a three-day visit to the Japanese capital, Tokyo during which the participants will tour educational institutions, companies and government departments relevant to urban planning, such as Japan for Sustainability, Ministry of Environment and Department of Urban Engineering at University of Tokyo.

The second phase of the programme is a four-day visit to Singapore, where participants will tour Cities Infrastructure Solutions Centre, GovTech, Smart Nation Singapore, JTC Clean Tech Park, Economic Development Board- Smart Sustainable Cities, among other entities.

HE Noura Al Noman said: “Launching the Best Practices in Urban Planning Programme is based upon a strategic partnership with DTPS. The programme is aimed at enhancing the capabilities of DTPS employees and stimulating them to achieve excellence in management and leadership practices, through introducing them to the latest international practices implemented in key urban planning organisations in Japan and Singapore.”

“The SCD succeeded in enhancing its presence, position and role among Sharjah’s government organisations, directorates and departments, in a very short period of time. It has positively contributed to building young Emirati leaders in the Emirate of Sharjah. Through its array of developed programmes, it seeks to lead a paradigm shift in the capability-building field. It strives to support and develop manpower and enhance functional leadership among them. It also relentlessly seeks to build effective and efficient frameworks with government leaders,” she added.

For his part, HE Khalid Bin Butti Al Muhairi, underscored that the MoU, which was signed off with the SCD, aims to further the efforts aimed at elevating human resources through strengthening collaboration between the two parties in many fields, most notably in implementing courses, training programmes and development research.

Al Muhairi pointed out that the MoU will provide young DTPS engineers with the opportunity to explore the latest local and international practices through enrolling them in many training and development programmes at world-class specialized centres and most acclaimed leading universities in UAE and overseas. In doing so, it will achieve the target goals of the approved ‘Best Practices in Urban Planning’ programme.

Sharjah for Capability Development (SCD) cooperates with the government and private sectors to boost the capabilities of young Emiratis leadership skills and stimulate them to achieve excellence in leadership roles and administrative practices. SCD’s training programmes align with current and future needs of the community and focuses on the principle of specialisation in the context of developing leadership, intellectual, professional and organisational capabilities.

The Sharjah for Capability Development ‘SCD’, was established in 2005, as the Sharjah Tatweer Forum.  In 2018, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, issued an Emiri Decree renaming the Sharjah Tatweer Forum as the Sharjah for Capability Development ‘SCD’, reorganising it under the the Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators, established and chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.

The foundation has more than 800 young members who contribute to achieve its goals through their ideas, visions, suggestions, recommendations, activities, initiatives and voluntary work. SCD’s annual Sharjah Leadership Programme contributed to the graduation of 380 young Emirati leaders aged 25-35 years, offering them invaluable professional development opportunities and empowering them to lead young generations in the future.
