Saudi Arabia's Minister of Transport and Logistics, Saleh Al-Jasser, announced that the Riyadh Metro is nearing its grand opening, which is expected to take place within just a few weeks.
In an interview with Al Arabiya, Al-Jasser said that the metro is in its final stages, and the matter is now with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. “You will hear positive news from the commission very soon,” he added.
Al-Jasser highlighted that the metro is undergoing daily testing, calling it an “exceptional and historic project”.
According to data from Argaam, the Riyadh Metro spans 176 kilometers and includes 85 stations. The metro system will integrate with the Riyadh Bus Network, which comprises 24 routes stretching 1,083 kilometers, serving 776 stations.
Contracts for the Riyadh Metro project were awarded in 2013 to three international consortia at a total value of approximately $22.5 billion (around SAR 84.4 billion).
