Canon Middle East celebrates Earth Hour 2016

Canon Middle East (CME), a leader in imaging solutions, participated in Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA’s) community event at Business Bay Park to observe Earth Hour 2016. The event raised awareness about the effects of climate change with family-oriented activities and a symbolic walk.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA said, “We are pleased to organise this event in partnership with the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS), in association with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and in cooperation with Dubai Properties Group (DPG). This supports the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who has laid down the foundations for a sustainable future for present and future generations through a vision, creative initiatives, and quality programmes. The directions of His Highness have been translated into real initiatives with a close follow-up from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which has helped Dubai in becoming a world model for clean and renewable energy, sustainability, and other environmental issues that are of interest to governments and individuals alike.”

Anurag Agrawal, Managing Director, Canon Middle East said: “At Canon Middle East we are committed to integrating our global philosophy of Kyosei, the purpose of living and working together for the common good, into every aspect of our work. Climate change is one of the most pressing issues, and together with DEWA we're reaching out to people to encourage them to be a part of a global effort towards halting climate change. We believe in reaching out to the maximum people and making them more responsible for their planet”.

Canon’s activities included a screening of an environmental video focused on Climate Change, entitled “Disruption” (watchdisruption.com), and a beautiful 3D photo stand inspired by the ocean. The theme was chosen to highlight the effect that climate change has on our oceans. Visitors were seen to be enjoying themselves at both areas during the event.

Through these activities, Canon conveyed its message of conserving the environment for a better tomorrow. As a special gesture, the participating visitors were also handed out give-aways, including an anti-stress globe and a plush turtle.

In recognition of Canon’s CSR commitment, the organisation received the Dubai Chamber CSR Label in 2016 for the fourth consecutive year and was recertified to ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard in 2013. Honouring Canon Middle East regional CSR efforts in 2015, The Arab Organization for Social Responsibility awarded Canon Middle East for ‘Best Environmental Practices in the Arab World.’
